  1. Nice. One thing to know about deer — if you see one, the odds are that others are close by. I once braked for a group of five or six who had arrived out of nowhere.

    • Michael — Deer are like teenagers; they run in herds. Friend and I came across a couple of does next to the trail in a forest preserve, and my gut told me there had to be more further back or further along. I went up the trail a hundred feet or so and found a buck in (very bloody) velvet. He looked young and small enough it may have been his first season. I took a photo but you’d have to look closely to see the strips hanging down.
